Service Internship

During their time at the Academy, Fellows agree to volunteer at the Osprey Point Retreat & Conference Center. This integral part of the Academy experience helps ground the intellectual and spiritual life of the community in a spirit of practical service and hospitality.

Fellow Responsibilities

Fellows agree to serve up to 16 hours per week at the Conference Center. While some weeks are quite busy, the average number of hours worked per week is usually 8-10. During a shift, Fellows report to the Conference Center staff.

Fellows' responsibilities include prepping and cooking meals for guests, waiting and busing tables, as well as cleaning guest rooms. Fellows are trained in the kitchen by a professional chef and by the end of the year are often developing menus and cooking their own gourmet meals.

Annual Conference

To further develop leadership and hospitality skills, each class plans and hosts an annual conference.  This conference is designed to share the mission and message of the Academy with a wider audience, especially potential fellowship applicants. The Class of 2008 hosted Assessing & Engaging Global Culture with Dr. Os Guinness and Doug Holladay. The Class of 2009 hosted The Integrity Weekend with Dr. Francis Collins and Kelly Monroe Kullberg Feb. 6-8, 2009.
