R. Hartwell Gardner

Harty was born and raised in Medford, Mass. and graduated from Colgate University in 1956. As an Air Force electronic warfare officer, he served in Germany before returning to attend Harvard University, where he earned an MBA degree in 1961.

While working for Mobil Oil Corporation after business school, he served in various financial positions concerning Latin America and Europe before becoming Treasurer of the corporation in 1974. Retiring as Treasurer of Mobil Corporation in 1995, he now serves on the boards of several companies. He is Chairman of the Audit Committee of Pioneer Natural Resources Company, Chairman of the Investment Committee of Oil Insurance Ltd., and a director of Acts 29 Ministries and Five Talents International, a microenterprise development organization of the Anglican Communion. Harty also serves on the Advisory Board of H.S. Grace & Co., a consulting group on corporate governance, and the board of the Trinity Forum Academy.

Harty and his wife Carolyn are members of Truro Church, an Anglican church in Fairfax, Virginia.
