Thomas J. Hutchison III
Mr. Tom Hutchison is a Trustee of The Trinity Forum and a senior executive with more than thirty-five years of experience in the lodging, hospitality, real estate development and financial services industries.
In January 2000, Mr. Hutchison joined CNL Financial Group, Inc.—one of the nation’s largest, privately held real estate investment and finance companies, where he held several key executive positions over a seven year period: CEO of CNL Hotels & Resorts, Inc., CEO of CNL Retirement Properties, Inc., CEO of CNL Income Properties, Inc., CEO of CNL Real Estate Services, Inc., and CEO of CNL Realty & Development, Inc. In 2000, CNL Retirement Properties, Inc. was a public, unlisted REIT with three staff members, and no properties. Under Mr. Hutchison’s leadership, the Healthcare REIT acquired $3.8 billion in over 300 properties, and was sold for $5.3 billion to Health Care Properties, Inc. in October of 2006. CNL Hotels & Resorts, Inc., also a public, unlisted REIT started in 2000, began with $250 million in properties. When Mr. Hutchison became CEO, he turned it into one of the largest and most distinctive lodging companies in the country. In April of 2007, the company was purchased for $6.6 billion by Morgan Stanley.
Prior to joining CNL, Mr. Hutchison was president and owner of numerous real estate services and development companies. From 1995 to 2000, he was chairman and chief executive officer of Atlantic Realty Service, Inc. and TJH Development Corporation. Since 1990, he has fulfilled a number of long-term consulting assignments for large corporations, including managing a number of large international joint ventures. From 1990 to 1991, Mr. Hutchison was the court-appointed president and chief executive officer of General Development Corporation, a real estate community development company, where he assumed the day-to-day management of the $2.6 billion NYSE-listed company entering reorganization.
From 1986 to 1990, he was the chairman and chief executive officer of a number of real estate-related companies engaged in the master planning and land acquisition of forty residential, industrial and office development projects. From 1978 to 1986, Mr. Hutchison was the president and chief executive officer of Murdock Development Corporation and Murdock Investment Corporation, as well as Murdock’s nine service divisions. In this capacity, he managed an average of $350 million of new development per year for over nine years. Additionally, he expanded the commercial real estate activities to a national basis, and established both a new extended care division and a hotel division that grew to fourteen properties.

Mr. Hutchison is currently a Director for ING DIRECT USA, KSL Capital Partners LLC, ClubCorp, Inc., Vision360, and the Trinity Forum. He is also a member of The Real Estate Roundtable, the Industry Real Estate Financing Advisory Council (IREFAC), Leadership Council for Communities in Schools, and the Advisory Council of the Erickson School of Aging Studies. Additionally, he serves as a Senior Advisor to various service industry public companies. He is a former Director of Metro Bank, Maryland Bank Corporation, Cannon Mills, Burris Foods, Inc., Atlantic Gulf Communities Corporation, Zapata Corporation, General Development Corporation, Boys and Girls Club of Central Florida, CNL Retirement Properties, Inc. and CNL Hotels & Resorts, Inc.
