James N. Lane
James N. Lane is Chairman and CEO of Devonwood Capital Partners, a Trustee of the Trinity Forum, and a founder of the New Canaan Society.
Devonwood is a private equity firm formed by the former partners of SG Capital Partners. From 1997-2002 he was Chairman and CEO of SG Capital Partners and Head of Merchant Banking for SG in the Americas. SG Capital Partners was the General Partner of $800 million in private equity funds that were affiliated with SG Cowen Securities and Société Generale, one of France’s largest banking institutions. In June 2002, Société Generale decided to exit the private equity business in the Americas.
Prior to establishing SG Capital Partners, Jim’s career spanned approximately twenty years at Goldman Sachs, & Co. where he was a General Partner and a founding member and Co-Head of the highly successful Principal Investment Area, which invested and managed over $2.5 billion of private equity investments, including leveraged buyouts and venture capital.
Jim has a Bachelor of Arts from Wheaton College and an MBA from Columbia University. He serves on several charitable boards including The Trinity Forum, Wilberforce Forum (Prison Fellowship Ministries), The Yale Center for Faith and Culture (Yale Divinity School), and the New Canaan Society. He previously served on a number of corporate boards including WRC Media and Day International Group.
Jim and his wife Susie live in New Canaan, Connecticut and have three daughters.
