Jean Bethke Elshtain Named Senior Fellow
Dr. Jean Bethke Elshtain, Laura Spelman Rockefeller Professor of Social and Political Ethics at the Divinity School of The University of Chicago, has been named a Senior Fellow of The Trinity Forum.
Dr. Elshtain is an internationally respected political philosopher and public intellectual whose task has been to show the connections between our political and our ethical convictions. She recently delivered the prestigious Gifford Lectures for 2005–06 at the University of Edinburgh on the topic “Sovereign God, Sovereign State, Sovereign Self.” She has written or edited twenty books, including a textbook on just war theory, as well as writing widely for journals of civic opinion, and lecturing on such issues as whether democracy will prove sufficiently robust and resilient to survive. In addition to her thinking on war and political life, she also writes on such topics as marriage, family, and the place of religion in public life. Her most recent solo book is Just War against Terror: The Burden of American Power in a Violent World.
