Sikes Named Trinity Forum Board Chair
Al Sikes is the new Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Trinity Forum as of August 2007, succeeding Paul Klaassen, who will remain on the Board. Mr. Klaassen has served twice as Chairman, most recently from 2003 to the present.
Executive Director Luder Whitlock enthusiastically welcomed Mr. Sikes to his new position, observing that his engaging style and productive role as trustee led to a unanimous selection by the Board. He also thanked Mr. Klaassen for his generous and steady leadership, which has resulted in new opportunities and greater influence for The Trinity Forum, adding, “we are grateful that we will still have the benefit of his counsel as we make what appears to be a smooth but stimulating transition. Paul Klaassen has been so instrumental in the accomplishments of recent years that we cannot imagine a Trinity Forum without his continued participation.”
Mr. Sikes has been involved with The Trinity Forum for many years as a Moderator at its executive seminars and forums as well as a mentor and advisor to the Trinity Forum Academy Fellows. He was elected to the board in 2005 and chaired the committee responsible for developing the Implications online journal.
Mr. Sikes, a former assistant attorney general and past chairman of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission, now divides his time between board work and business consulting for the Hearst Corporation, where he formed and led Hearst Interactive Media from 1993 through 2001. He is also the founder and past chair of the Reading Excellence and Discovery Foundation, which serves at-risk children, and was recognized by the Manhattan Institute in 2004 as one of the nation’s foremost social entrepreneurs. He and his wife Marty live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
