The Trinity Forum Update

The Trinity Forum Update

February 2008. The Trinity Forum

“The understanding that all nature was made by a single deity, rather than by a panoply of warring deities, was important to building confidence that science was even possible.” —Randy Isaac

This Update notes a new Senior Fellow appointment—the noted geneticist Dr. Francis Collins. Appropriately, we have a new Provocations feature from Dr. Randy Isaac, director of the American Scientific Affiliation, on the relationship of science and faith. Al Sikes and David Aikman reflect on the U.S. election season. And we are reprinting new editions of three Readings booklets.

Francis Collins Named Senior Fellow

Francis S. Collins, M.D., Ph.D., has been named a Senior Fellow of The Trinity Forum. Dr. Collins is director of the National Human Genome Research Institute at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. (He takes on the role of Senior Fellow in a private capacity.)

GargoyleNew on our Provocations Journal

  • The Pursuit of Science in a Christian Context: Modeling Dialogue Rather than Warfare. Physicist Randy Isaac looks at the public perception of the relationship between religion and science, suggesting that a model of conflict is too simplistic.
  • Perhaps, a Flicker of Light. Al Sikes, The Trinity Forum's Chairman, reflects on the current U.S. primary season and the light that may be glimmering through the elections fog.
  • What Do Evangelicals Do with Power? Senior Fellow David W. Miller reviews Faith in the Halls of Power: How Evangelicals Joined the American Elite, by D. Michael Lindsay.

Three Readings Reprints

We are bringing three Trinity Forum Readings booklets back into print.

  • Man's Search For Meaning by Viktor Frankl and Foreword by Al McDonald
  • The Wager and other selections from the Pensées by Blaise Pascal with commentary from Peter Kreeft and Foreword by Os Guinness.
  • To Bigotry No Sanction: George Washington and Religious Liberty by Paul Boller and foreword by Al McDonald.

Each is newly formatted, set in larger type, and includes a group discussion guide. They will be available in mid-March.

Wilberforce Documentary

The documentary film produced by our friends at The Wilberforce Project, The Better Hour: The Legacy of William Wilberforce, is being broadcast this month on PBS stations in the USA. The DVD will be shipping from the PBS store at the end of February, and from Amazon in mid-March.
