An Evening Conversation

with Michael Wear

Civility in the Public Square:
Cultivating Community
Amidst Deep Divisions

Join the Trinity Forum, EDGE Mentoring, and Indianapolis Classical Schools for an Evening Conversation with Michael Wear, the author of "Reclaiming Hope" on how to build bridges across the lines that divide us in politics, business, and in our local communities.

This Evening Conversation is part of an exciting partnership launched last fall between the Trinity Forum, EDGE Mentoring, and Indianapolis Classical Schools to host, on a semi-annual basis, some of the world's most insightful thought leaders to speak on life's biggest questions.

During this Evening Conversation, Wear will discuss the nature of and need for civility in the public square, and ways that cultivating such engagement can build strong communities, even across deep divides. Responding to Wear will be Allison Melangton, the Senior Vice President of Hulman Motorsports, who will discuss practical ways that local communities can grow and flourish through cultivating a more civil public square.

Michael Wear is the founder of Public Square Strategies LLC, which helps organizations more effectively navigate the rapidly changing religious and political landscape. Previously, Michael directed faith outreach for President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign, and served as the Deputy Director of the White House Office for Faith-Based Initiatives during President Obama’s first term. He is the author ofReclaiming Hope: Lessons Learned in the Obama White House About the Future of Faith in America, and writes for The Atlantic, Christianity Today, USA Today, Relevant Magazine, and other publications. He serves on the national board of Bethany Christian Services, and holds an honorary position at the University of Birmingham’s Cadbury Center for the Public Understanding of Religion, and is a Senior Fellow at the Trinity Forum.

Responding to Wear will be Allison Melangton, the Senior Vice President of Hulman Motorsports. Previously, Melangton served on the Executive Leadership team of Indiana Sports Corp for twenty years, serving the last two years as President. Additionally, she acted as CEO and president of the 2012 Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee from 2008 through 2012. She has received five Emmy Awards for her previous work as an Associate Producer for NBC Sports during various summer Olympic games. Melangton was honored with a “Sagamore of the Wabash” by Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels and recognized as a “Living Legend” by the Indiana Historical Society. She serves on the board of directors for OneAmerica Financial Partners, Visit Indy, Arts Council of Indianapolis, and the Indy Chamber.

This event is sponsored by the Wilson Family Fund, aimed at "reconnecting truth and beauty," and the Enas Family Fund.
