Trinity Forum Reading Group in New York City

Tuesday, April 25, 2017 - 7:00pm to 9:00pm
Home of Krishen & Geeta Mehta
New York City

We are delighted to invite you to a Trinity Forum Reading Group in New York City! There we will discuss J.R.R. Tolkien’s beautiful short story “Leaf by Niggle,” with an insightful introduction by Alonzo McDonald and foreword by visual artist Makoto Fujimura.

The first meeting of the NYC Reading Group will meet Tuesday, April 25 at the home of our friends and Trinity Forum Society members Krishen and Geeta Mehta. Drinks and a light dinner will be served by the hosts.
Trinity Forum Reading Groups provide opportunities to reflect on and discuss great works of literature and letters. This upcoming discussion will explore a charming and haunting tale, which Tolkien used to demonstrate what he called the “mythopoeic” power of fairy-stories, and to address the question of our life’s purpose and legacy.
Not only does the story illustrate Tolkien’s own struggles with the writing process — his desire for perfection, struggle to achieve a vision always beyond his grasp, and frequent procrastination — but it also speaks to deeper issues that haunt us all — the meaning of our work and relationships, our hunger for beauty, the worth of our creative endeavors, and our own eventual preparation for eternity.
Our Trinity Forum Readings are one way in which we aim to cultivate and disseminate the best of Christian-thought, and we hope this discussion will offer wisdom and encouragement.
You can order the Reading to prepare for our discussion by visiting the Trinity Forum online store
Registration is free, but to participate, please reserve your seat by registering above. Light refreshments will be served.
